Tarot, for the uninitiated, is a deck of 78 cards.  Each card is illustrated with symbols, and corresponds with ancient esoteric systems, including numerology, astrology and Kabbalah.   No one knows whether those correspondences were intended by the original designers of tarot, or if their inclusion is simply a happy coincidence, or divine intervention.  As a divination method, tarot is young, only a few hundred years old; much younger than the systems it incorporates.

Each year, many new tarot decks are developed, each following, to some extent, the archetypes that make tarot what it is, but demonstrating those archetypes in a variety of ways.  There are literally hundreds of tarot decks from which to choose; many tarotists own more than one.

Many new students make the mistake of thinking tarot is only a device for divination, or fortune-telling, and nothing more.  In fact, tarot is a tool for self-reflection, spiritual growth, psychic development, creative play, communication, magick and manifestation.

Anyone can learn tarot, and everyone who comes to tarot will benefit from it.

Many people find the task of learning the meanings and lessons of 78 cards a bit daunting.  Often, tarot decks sit on the bookshelves for years before folks find the right inspiration, or the right teacher.  My own first deck sat, unused, for a full year before I took a class at my local new age shop.  The rest, of course, is history.

Tarot instruction is available at spiritual centers, libraries, schools, shops and even on-line.  Tarot instruction will teach you about tarot, and about yourself.

Tarot is deep – you can study it for a lifetime and still not know everything.  But tarot is also simple.  After looking at a card for just a few moments, you will find that it begins to speak to you.

Who studies tarot?  Lots of people do.  Tarot enthusiasts come from all walks of life and all age groups.  Lawyers, doctors, stay-at-home parents, artists, corporate executives, teachers, writers and scientists are only some of the folks you will meet in your local tarot class.

This fall, I will be teaching a series of tarot classes in my office in West Palm Beach, and also on-line.  I am looking forward to being part of a process that will help people discover tarot, and in doing so, discover themselves.
